3D SCAN

Industrial optical 3D metrology

3D coordinate measuring machines record full surface and detailed quality information of a component in the shortest amount of time. Optical metrology is used worldwide for dimensional quality assurance, especially for plastic, cast, and sheet metal parts in the automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods industries. With the 3D data you get a "digital twin" with which you can perform further analysis or even "reverse engineering". There are also other possible uses in more unusual sectors, such as forensic science or the arts.

The origin of GOM's measurement technology was in the automotive industry in quality management. The sensors can be used to scan and assess everything from the smallest parts, measuring no more than 1 cm, to entire car bodies. In this way, the dimensional quality of the products can be ensured throughout the entire production process.

GOM's optical band light sensors project precise band patterns onto the component surface and are captured by two cameras based on the stereo camera principle. Since the beam paths of both cameras and the projector are calibrated in advance, the 3D coordinate points can be calculated from the three different beam sections. This triple scanning principle offers advantages when measuring reflective surfaces and indented objects. The result is complete measurement data without holes or erroneous points. An ATOS sensor represents a self-monitoring system. The sensor software continuously checks the status of the calibration, the accuracy of the transformation, as well as changes in the environment and movements components to ensure measurement quality.

GOM, a ZEISS Group company, specializes in industrial 3D coordinate measurement, 3D computed tomography, and 3D testing technology. GOM sets international standards in 3D optical metrology. The company helps customers around the world to increase product quality, optimize processes and thus produce more efficiently.
